Ahh the "Ever Allusive" Fat Loss!
Tried the teas? Done the detoxes? Tried cutting out food groups or some other fad diet? Given up carbs after sunset or whatever BS your favourite Instagram model tells you to do? You name it, we have heard it, and we are here to tell you that there is an easier and simpler way! So put down that lemon detox water and read up!
You might even find a simple fat loss checklist to help you along your journey!
What Are You Putting In Your Mouth?!

Yep you guessed it! Weight loss and weight gain is driven mainly by the amount and types of food that we eat. You've heard of calories right?
Well if you haven't, calories are simply a unit of measurement for energy. "Calories" aren't bad so no need to be afraid of them, they just tell us how much energy is in the food we are eating.
However, if we eat too many and don't burn enough calories through exercise and daily activity this can lead to weight gain.
It's simple, if we eat too many calories and don't use them, we go into what is called a calorie surplus and over time gain weight.
In the reverse, if we eat and burn enough calories to put ourselves below our maintenance level of calories we will go into a calorie deficit and lose weight.
But how do we find our maintenance level?
Easy! Track your daily calories (using an app like "My Fitness Pal"), track your body weight to see if it changes over a period of a week or two and: - If your body weight goes up, your eating too many calories.
- If your body weight stays the same, your eating around your maintenance level.
- If your body weight drops, you are below your maintenance.
Quick tip: Download my fitness pal and start tracking how many calories you eat. A little bonus tip is to also start checking the food labels on the back of your food items to see how much energy and what is actually in the food you are eating.
Let's Cut The Crap!
If it's there, you'll eat it... That's right, we're talking about the junk in the cupboard, or the ice cream in the fridge. It's simple, don't buy it and you won't be tempted to eat it.
We'll ask you this. Do you fill the dogs water bowl up with soft drink? Or give it some ice cream for desert? Didn't think so...
The key to a healthy lifestyle is Balance and it is the same for our diet. If we are conscious of what we are eating and enjoy a wide array of nutritious foods without over indulging or cutting any food groups out, then we are on the right track. There's nothing wrong with a treat every now and then, as long as we know when to pull it in, get back on track and don't over do it.
Be prepared! Cook your meals in advance for the week ahead. We all know that when we get busy we revert back to the easiest option. For most that leads to bad choices. If your healthy meals are already pre cooked and ready for you, there's no excuse not to eat them. Just like the junk, if it's there, you'll eat it!

Quick tip: Write down a food diary of all the foods you eat through out the day.
For bonus points show it to someone. Writing our food down keeps us accountable. You'll be less likely to eat that piece of cake for morning tea if you have to write it down and show someone your food diary later.
So What Supplements Should I Take?
Okay, you may have missed the point...
While some supplements do have their place, our advice for all of us normal people out there is this:
Nail the basics of your nutrition before you start taking supplements!
We promise that if you eat a well balanced diet made up of all the food groups, start to track your calories and increase your daily activity, you shouldn't have too much of a problem with losing some weight. We believe this so much that if you contact us and prove you've tried it we will help you out with a FREE PT Session!
Move it!
Alright we might have avoided it for long enough, but now is the time to take control of what we are doing. Exercise helps us to burn through those calories that we eat. Not only is it a great way to improve our physical health, fitness and strength it does amazing work for our mental health!
Quick tip: Find exercise that is fun! Like anything you're more likely to do something that you enjoy. Exercise doesn't have to be any different. Pick a sport, train with friends, find a fitness group!
But I Don't Have The Motivation!
Sometimes it's hard. We get it!
We are human too don't forget. These colder months do make it a lot easier to hit the snooze button or leave exercise to be 'Tomorrow's Problem', but we have solutions for you:
Find a training partner. They'll help keep you accountable
Write down your goals and look at them every day.
Join a group. It's a fun way to exercise and make some great friends in the process.
Pay someone to do it for you? If only it was that easy... But seriously invest in your health and hire a personal trainer to do the motivating for you and help keep you on track.
Find your WHY! Why do you want to lose fat? Why do you want to get fitter? Once you nail that, motivation will flow.
You've made it this far! So we've created a Quick and Easy FREE CHECKLIST to help you keep on track of your fat loss.
